Zika Virus: Assam all set to face every challange

Zika virus-infected many people this year, Kerala being the worst affected. Cases detected through RT-PCR

Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Superintendant Dr. Abhijit Sharma said that till date the state has not registered any Zika Virus case.
Dr Sharma said that the people of Assam have nothing to worry about as the GMCH is fully equipped and ready to face any challenge caused by the Zika virus.
He added that the medical hospital has a sufficient number and beds and manpower and urges the people not to panic. 
Zika is a viral infection caused by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. It is extremely harmful as it can trigger paralysis and in pregnant women, it may cause birth defects in the child.

It was in Kerala on the 8th July 2021 where a case of Zika virus was reported. It was detected through RT-PCR testing at the National Institute of Virology in Pune. Subsequently, that several cases of Zika virus were reported in Kerala and a few other states of India like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh.

Reports over the past few months in India show that Kerala has been the worst hit by Zika.
As a preventive measure, WHO urges people to stay aware of mosquito bites by wearing light-colored and long-sleeved shirts and pants, using mosquito nets while sleeping.
WHO even recommends sexually active men and women to take counseling and maintain safe sexual relationships to restrict the spread of infection.
