Yes hypochondriacs need treatment too but of a different kind

Most psychiatrists are in agreement that paranoia is the root cause of hypochondria, which is a delusionary state where people are convinced that they have all kinds of diseases.

Mental health is something that we should really be concerned about and understand the benefits of having a stable mind. After all, there are scores of mental health patients who are inches away from becoming completely mentally unstable. We should also realize the pain that their condition inflicts upon their families and close friends.
"Anxieties, depression, stress etc are often the starting points of mental disorders, which if left untreated can eventually lead to permanent mental impairment and disability," says N Phukan a leading psychiatrist based in Guwahati.
There are multiple mental disorders that can plague the human psychology and mind. According to Phukan, most psychiatrists are in agreement that paranoia is the root cause of hypochondria, which is a delusionary state where people are convinced that they have all kinds of diseases.
Paranoia is actually a mental disposition where one constantly fears the worst and even conjures beliefs and perceptions that are debilitating in terms of one's overall confidence and interpersonal relationships.
Hypochondria is a serious mental disorder that needs intervention and treatment by a psychiatrist
Hypochondriacs are invariably at the brink of a complete mental breakdown because they fear that the most minor health irritants can snowball into incurable or even fatal diseases.

Hypochondria is a serious mental disorder that needs intervention and treatment by a psychiatrist. In the cases where the symptoms are not very severe, mental health counselors too can step in. Therefore, we must be vigilant and educate those who are not aware of hypochondria along with those who are actually hypochondriacs.
According to Phukan, hypochondria is often characterized by extreme and irrational fear. "Some children who are excessively fearful end up as hypochondriacs in their adult life and hence parents should always be emotionally present for such children and talk to them about their fears and anxieties. The attempt always should be to empathize, rationalize and ultimately diffuse the fear. An overly practical matter of fact approach and admonishment never works in such cases," he explains and cautions.
Hypochondria can ruin a person's psychological health and sometimes adversely affect their physical health too because they have no control over their minds. "Since it is the mind which controls all our body reflexes it is critical that hypochondria be cured in the interest of sound physical health too," sums Phukan.
