World Oral Health Day observed across Nagaland

The theme for this year is, "Be proud of Your Mouth" it is also considered the largest global awareness campaign on Oral Health

After the FDI World Dental Federation launched World Oral Health Day in 2013, it has been observed annually all over the world. The theme for this year is, "Be proud of Your Mouth" it is also considered the largest global awareness campaign on Oral Health.
The annual observance spreads messages about good Oral hygiene practices for adults and children and illustrates the importance of Oral Health in maintaining general health and well being. Nagaland too joined in observing the day by carrying out various Health programmes.
Awareness regarding the importance of Oral hygiene has significantly increased in developed countries, but contrary to that, the modern dietary lifestyle habits ate posing in greater risk for Oral Health
In Kohima, the state capital of Nagaland, a programme was organized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), Kohima under National Oral Health Programme at Kros College, Kohima. Dr Pfukrolo Koza, junior dental specialist Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) while speaking on the theme, said that the Day aims to empower people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to secure good Oral Health.

"The growing burden of Oral disease demands action on every level: individual, family and community. World Dental Federation is confident that simple, targeted action has the power to curb the prevalence of Oral diseases and make Oral Health a personal priority for all", Dr Koza said. He also said good Oral hygiene habits keep away most of the Dental problems saving from toothaches and costly dental treatments and others.

The program was chaired by Dr Rosy Yhome, senior dental specialist NHAK with Vidilhou Suohu, administrator of Kros College delivering a short speech. Besides Kohima, World Oral Health Day was also celebrated at Wokha and Zunheboto under the aegis of the National Oral Health Programme.
