Tripura Government has decided to set up COVID War Rooms in every district of the state, which is manned only by the teachers to maintain the database of COVID patients, their treatment follow-ups and vaccination.
"Our idea of forming the COVID war rooms manned by teachers is to relieve the healthcare workers from these tasks so that they can be engaged more in treating and caring for the COVID patients. If healthcare staff get involved in taking calls and follow up actions in war rooms, the Covid care in hospitals or other centres may get hampered", said Saju Vaheed, state nodal officer for Covid Control Room.
Such war rooms are formed in two districts--West Tripura and Sipahijala, but the same war rooms would be set up in all the other six districts of the state soon.
Vaheed said the two facilities are now in service with multiple teams having a total strength of 90 and important responsibilities like monitoring of data bank of Covid positive patients and taking follow-up of the patients who are in home isolation through phone calls.
"The men in duty contact the patients in home isolation and inquire about their present health condition, whether they are symptomatic or facing any other issues. In case any urgent action is needed, they pass the information to the control room where the issue is addressed. Sometimes, people also call and ask for delivery of foods and other essential items too and the same is addressed by the men in war rooms," he said.
A portal has been developed for inventory management and is now in the stage of formation.
Tripura Government has formed COVID War Rooms in districts, which are manned only by the teachers to maintain the database of COVID patients, their treatment follow-ups and vaccination."This will enable the war rooms to deliver important information on the availability of beds, ICU beds, oxygen cylinders and other facilities in various Covid care centres to the people", the official said.
The war rooms have been set up in computer labs of schools where all requirements- computer, internet, screen, printers, scanners and projectors are available following which the war rooms didn't have a requirement for any other additional technical support.
In West Tripura district, the control room is functioning at Ksudiram English Medium Higher Secondary School (8 am to 8 pm) from May 11, said Headmistress of the school Basanti Bhattacharjee.
"The teachers from various schools are working hard in this war room with the responsibility to manage patients' data and to maintain regular contacts with them for follow up", Bhattacharjee told reporters.
In the meantime, all schools are closed in Tripura following the massive spike in Covid 2.0. According to an official report, Tripura has recorded the highest single-day count of Covid tests- 10,185 on Wednesday while a record 879 new positive cases have been reported along with five more deaths.
