While Tripura is seeing a sharp decline in the Covid positivity rate, 120 cases of Omicron variant have been detected from the Covid-positive samples of December and January sent to the NIBG, Kalyani for Whole Genome Sequencing. According to an official report, total 231 samples in two batches were sent in the month of January to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBG), out of which 120 samples were detected as Omicron variants.
Confirming the report, State Surveillance Officer Deep Kumar Debbarma said, among the total 120 Omicron cases, six were detected from the samples of December last week.In the first batch, the Health Department had sent 69 RT-PCR positive samples from January 1 to 15. More 162 samples were sent between January 16 and 31 in the second batch. Eight samples from the first batch including six samples from December last week and another 112 samples from the second batch were detected as Omicron cases, the report said.
The report also said that more 99 samples were sent from Tripura for Whole Genome Sequencing on February 15 last and the results were yet to be receivedThe West Tripura district reported the highest 76 Omicron cases, followed by Sepahijala with 14 cases, South Tripura 10 cases, Khowai 6, five each in Unakoti and North Tripura and four in Gomati district. Meanwhile, no case of Omicron was reported in the Dhalai district so far.
The report also said that more 99 samples were sent from Tripura for Whole Genome Sequencing on February 15 last and the results were yet to be received. Dr. Debbarma said there is no need to panic as the situation is normal now. He said, the Covid positivity rate on Wednesday stands 0.35 percent in Tripura.
The Health department's media bulletin for the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning said, tests of total 2840 samples were conducted and 10 were found Covid positive. The number of Covid infected persons in Tripura as on February 16 is 147 and total death tally in the state so far is 916. Another report from the Health department said, total 50,72,046 doses of Covid vaccine were administered in the state so far 27,60,998 first jabs, 2251556 second shots and 59,492 precaution doses.
