Tripura Govt to utilize funds sanctioned for vaccination in healthcare infrastructures: CM

With the assurance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Covid vaccines would be supplied to the states free of cost by the centre, the Tripura Government, which earmarked Rs. 134 crore for vaccination would now utilize the fund for building healthcare infrastructure.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is also the health minister of the state, announced after inaugurating a 600-LPM Oxygen Plant at Tripura Medical College on Friday.
As the centre recently announced that the Covid- 19 vaccine doses would be supplied free of cost to states, the funds would now be utilized for improving the healthcare infrastructure of Tripura, Deb said. "The government's proposal for setting up the oxygen plant in the medical college was accepted by the center without any delay. This shows how active Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in tackling Covid-19," he said.
Deb said that his government is striving to make Tripura the first state in the country with 100 per cent vaccination against coronavirus.
The state has already secured the top position in India in vaccinating the 45 year plus age groups. It was possible because the people belonging to the state are conscious about the result of vaccination and the government's massive awareness drive, he said. 92% of the people above 45 years are vaccinated with the first dose within the state, said the Chief Minister in his Wednesday tweet. Tripura is in the first position in India in terms of vaccination.
"Now, our aim is to make Tripura the first state in the country where the people are 100 percent vaccinated. We will achieve the goal," Deb said after inaugurating the oxygen plant.
"At present, Tripura is holding the top position in the country for 92 per cent vaccination of 45+ age groups. Now, our aim is to make Tripura the first state of the country in terms of 100 percent vaccination," Deb told the media.

Later in the evening, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with the health officials at the State Civil Secretariat. He prescribed plans for expediting the process to vaccinate 18-44 age groups and passed an instruction to immediately utilize 2.5 lakh doses of vaccines for the said age group.

According to official records, Tripura had already administered 16, 52, 029 doses till June 11, and as many as 11, 42, 913 people received the first shot, and 5 got the second jab.
The figures included 1,48,686 for Front Line Workers, 91,925 for Health Care Workers, and 5,10,656 for senior citizens (60+ age group). As many as 3,95,010 doses (GOI channel for 45+ age group) and 91,750 doses (State channel for 18-44 age group) were in stock as of June 11.
Meanwhile, with eight more deaths reported on Friday, the total Covid death toll in the state had already reached 601.
In this context, the Chief Minister, in a social media post, appealed to the people of  Tripura to immediately go for covid tests in case of any symptoms.
He wrote, "Some people are avoiding tests even after developing symptoms. As a result, their health condition suddenly deteriorates. In such a situation, the doctors can't even do anything. I request all to go for tests without any delay in case of any symptoms.
"In Tripura, tests of a total of 11,17,073 samples were conducted to date. Among them, 58,073 specimens were found to be infected with the coronavirus. While 52,158 patients had already recovered, a total of 5,271 Covid-infected persons was under treatment as of Friday, according to the latest COVID19 report made available from the state's Health Department.
