The first case of death post-vaccination recorded in India

The Covid vaccine generally does not possess any side effects. But still, it is strictly advised to monitor the patient up to half an hour post-vaccination

The first death case as a result of the side-effect of Covid 19 vaccines has been reported. According to the report of the National AEFI Committee, the 68-year-old man suffered severe allergy (known as anaphylaxis in medical terms). The deceased was vaccinated on March 8, 2021. A government panel studying the side effects of Covid 19 vaccines confirmed this first death post-vaccination.
A causality assessment was done on 31 patients who showed some severe effects followed by vaccination.
Experts say that only properly conducted investigation and casual assessment can help understand the causal relationship between the event and the vaccines.
Concerning this death case, Dr NK Arora, the chairperson of the National AEFI Committee, said that this was the first death case due to anaphylaxis. He further added this re-emphasises the strict monitoring of the patient up to half an hour post-vaccination. There are chances that most of the patient might receive the anaphylactic reaction soon after vaccination, and the patient can be provided immediate medication to prevent deaths.
