The COVID 19 positivity rate in Assam has decreased in August

Assam has shown a lower positivity rate compared to the national average

The COVID-19 positivity rate has substantially decreased in the past week compared to July in Assam. The positivity rate indicates the number of specimens that turn out positive per hundred samples tested every day. On August 1 and 2 the positivity rates stood at 5.91%. and 5.36%. The state health minister had tweeted that Assam has been able to maintain a low positivity rate consistently. The last few days of July too were good as on 31st July, it was 4.85% and on 30th July, it was 5.14%. The state government has been able to keep the consistency broadly within 4% to 5% and aims to further reduce it to 2-1%. Earlier the positivity rate was above 6.19%.

The national COVID-19 positivity rate is around 6.73% in India. Many states have reported even lower positivity rates that prove that the number of people testing positive in the country has declined significantly in recent weeks, possibly due to focused interventions by the government and healthcare experts. Puducherry followed by Chandigarh, Assam, Tripura, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Goa and Punjab have shown low positivity rate compared to the national average.
