SMIT student sets record by completing 267 courses

The courses were pursued from different universities around the globe and also companies like Amazon, Google and IBM

While the world is reeling under the dark shadow of the ongoing pandemic, many people have risen above this adversity and set an inspiring example for others. Shivam Kashyap who has recently completed B.Tech in computer science and engineering from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) under Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is an example of this. He has completed 267 courses in the Coursera platform during the time of the pandemic.
"Due to the lockdown it was not possible to complete my major project (internship/dissertation) in time. Waiting for the lifting of the lockdown was vexing and also not an easy option. Luckily our faculty members had apprised me that if our project is stalled due to certain unforeseen reasons, we can undertake some online courses related to it to complete the remaining weeks of the internship. And fortunately all the courses offered to us on the Coursera platform were free," Shivam said.

"The courses were so interesting and the instructors were so engaging that during the lockdown I managed to complete a total of 267 courses, combining 9 years of certification. I did courses from different universities around the globe like the University of Toronto, UC San Diego, University of Michigan, UCDAVIS, University of Colorado, Cape Town, John Hopkins, University of Minnesota, University of California and also industry courses from different companies like Amazon, Google, IBM and many more", he shared.

SMIT has always encouraged its students to strive for excellence in their lives. Besides providing opportunities for new ways of learning it also inspires students to fulfill their dreams by incubating their ideas through the Atal Incubation Centre (AIC), SMUTBI (Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubation Foundation). This is incidentally one of the first AIC centers in North East funded by NITI Ayog to promote an entrepreneurial culture.
