Sikkim: Over 30 volunteers donate blood on ex-SMU Pro VC's birthday

Several medical professionals present at the event encouraged the people to donate blood and save lives

On the auspicious occasion of the 86th birthday of the founding Pro-Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), Dr. Ramdas M Pai, a blood donation camp was organized recently at Central Referral Hospital (CRH) Manipal in Gangtok.
The Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by Lt. Gen. (Dr) Rajan S Grewal, Vice-Chancellor, SMU. Dr. Muralidhar V Pai, Dean, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Dr. Karma S. Sherpa, Registrar, SMU; Dr. Yogesh Verma, Medical Superintendent, CRH and Dr. Sanjay Kumar (HOD, Dept of Physiology, SMIMS) were also present at the event.

After a proper requisite screening of all the voluntary donors, more than 30 volunteers donated their blood. After donating the blood, the donors were given refreshments and a Donor's Certificate.
Speaking on the occasion, SMU VC Dr. Rajan S Grewal said, "Blood transfusion is a vital component of health care. A single donation can save three lives. Despite medical and technological advances, blood cannot be made, so donations are the only way we can give blood to those who need it."
He encouraged the donors to donate blood regularly.
