Sikkim Chief Minister Tamang hails ASHA workers

Present at the event, the minister lauded the contribution of the ASHA workers to the society

ASHA Sammelan 2021, organised by All Sikkim ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) Welfare Association in collaboration with Health and Family Welfare Department was held at Manan Kendra recently. Sikkim Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang graced the function as the Chief Guest.
Chief Minister Tamang in his speech extended his congratulations for organising this historic convention for the first time and gratitude to all the ASHA workers for their sincere work.
He mentioned that ASHA means hope and that the Sikkimese people place their hopes and expectations towards them for their work, assistance and support. The CM said that without the support of ASHA workers, it would have been difficult to manage the COVID-19 pandemic during its 1st and 2nd waves in the State.
He said that health remains a top priority sector for the State Government and the government has been working relentlessly to upgrade and bring reforms for its growth and development for the convenience of the public.

Tamang apprised the gathering about the implementation of various schemes, policies and new infrastructure in the health sector during the years from 2019 to 2021. The Chief Minister also assured to enhance economic facilities for the ASHA workers in the future.

He concluded his speech by extending his gratitude to ASHA Association for the felicitation and honour conferred to him.
During the programme, a district-wise presentation was given by ASHA representatives, followed by a felicitation of eight ASHA workers by the Chief Minister.
The programme also saw various cultural performances by the ASHA workers.
Minister for Education Department, Kunga Nima Lepcha, Political Secretary to CM, Jacob Khaling, Advisor Health, K. B. Gurung, Mayor Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Neel Bahadur Chettri, Deputy Mayor GMC were also present at the event.
