PHED organizes SBM programmes in various districts of Nagaland

Mokokchung division organized a two-day capacity building training on ODF Plys components for Swachhagrahis and WATSAN committee members

The Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED), Govt. of Nagaland organized a series of programmes under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Grameen II at various blocks under Mokokchung, Kiphire and Tuensang districts of Nagaland.
The PHED in the Mokokchung division organized a two-day capacity building training on ODF Plys components for Swachhagrahis and WATSAN committee members from May 24-25 at the community hall, Sangtemla ward Mokokchung town. In a press release, PHED Mokokchung division informed that the main objective of the training, sponsored by Sanitation & WSSO, PHED Nagaland, was to ensure effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) Phase II and to achieve ODF Plus. Resource persons of the training were district coordinator PHED, Alemjungla Longchar, IEC consultant PHED, Rongentola, Sanitation and hygiene consultant PHED, and Tsungrusungla Jamir. The training was attended by participants from 50 villages.
The PHED in the Tuensang division conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) awareness and capacity building programme on SBM Grameen II at Shamator district, Tuensang district and Noklak district.
The PHED in the Kiphire division in collaboration with North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) organized a capacity building for WATSAN committee and village functionaries under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (G) at Holongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire Er. Sair gave an overview of JJM, roles of government implementing Support Agency (ISA) and various convergence opportunities on water and Sanitation with various departments. EAC Kiphire and Khieya urged the participants to fully cooperate and support in planning, implementing and monitoring the successful execution of JJM. Pointing out that Kiphire was an aspirational district, Khieya stressed on the importance of collaboration and the significant role of WATSAN committee and village functionaries at village level to achieve FHTC in all rural households. Later, chemist Horili Sangtam updated Field-Testing Kits training status for water quality team for Longmatra, Pungro and Khonsa. In his remark, SDO Civil, James Khulu highlighted the significance of partnership with different stakeholders and communities to successfully implement FHTC in every household by 2023.

The PHED in the Tuensang division conducted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) awareness and capacity building programme on SBM Grameen II in Shamator district, Tuensang district and Noklak district. The awareness programme was sponsored by WSSO and Sanitation, PHED Nagaland. In Shamator district, 12 villages from Shamator Block alongwith WATSAN Chairmen and swachhagrahis attended the programme at EBRC Hall Shamator Town. At the programme, SDO PHED Shamator, Er. Ima Longchar highlighted the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission ODF Plus and it's components. District coordinatoredit N Sangtam talked about the main objective of SBM(G) II ODF plus components and its criteria as per SBM(G) issued by the ministry of Jal Shakti. Topics including SBM(G) II target 2020-21-2024-25, the importance of swachhagrahis on SBM(G) II, solid waste management (compost pit and plastic waste managements) liquid waste management (greywater management through community soakagepit and individual soak pit), etc. were also highlighted. Sangtam said the village council should utilize a minimum of 60% or more of the 15FC and MGNREGA fund received in the yearly grant from RD/DRDA ad the tied fund at village levels to achieve total Sanitation in the village. Besides these places, the programmes were also held at Sangsangnyu Block, Longchamp Block and Noklak Block.
