Covid momentum in Assam has been decreasing since beginning of the current month and it was almost nil in last three days in state's capital city of Guwahati. The premier medical medical institution of the state, Guwahati Medical College hospital recorded no Covid patient admission on Saturday.
The Principal of the hospital Dr Achyut Baishya said that even though the number of cases have already started to decline by the end of 2021, it was never completely free of Covid patients.
It was mentioned that in the last wave of Covid, several cases were admitted to the Kalapahar Covid care facility, which is under the administrative control of the GMCH.
"We discharged a baby from the pediatric ICU on Friday, and today there was no Covid case in GMCH. The baby turned Covid negative on Friday morning. For the first time, we spent a day without a single Covid patient at GMCH," Baishya said.
By Thursday the number of admitted Covid cases at GMCH had reduced to two. It was informed that an elderly Covid patient was shifted to a hospital ward from the ICU on Thursday and got discharged by night.

In this regard, the Health department officials said that across Assam, less than 50 patients are currently being treated in hospitals. The Friday night report issued by the health department said there are 966 active cases in the state and the recovery rate is 98.77%. Assam witnessed the first case on March 31, 2020.
While Kamrup (Metro) district, which covers Guwahati city areas, remained the biggest concern, here too, the positivity rate and daily cases have been contained. In the urban district, the test positivity rate has been around 1%.
Assam NHM director, Dr Lakshmanan S said that only 45 Covid patients are admitted to different hospitals in the state at present. He informed me that 15 of them are in ICUs.
"The Covid situation has significantly improved. At present only eight Covid patients are on ventilation support and that, too, because of other complications related to Covid. However, we are keeping an alert," he said.
