Naturopathy: A safer way to a healthier life

As the name suggests, Naturopathy uses nature to heal people without any side-effects

Just as every problem comes with a solution, similarly, every illness can be treated. There are various ways to treat different ailments. The common means of treatment that are mostly preferred are allopathic, ayurvedic and homoeopathy. In medical terms, the suffix 'PATHY' is derived from the Greek word 'PATHOS' which implies suffering or disease.
Another genre of treatment that has been re-gaining public acceptance and popularity in the recent past is Naturopathy. In simple words, Naturopathy is the use of natural means to cure any kind of disease.
With an inquisitive mind and a will to know something more about naturopathy, Fit Northeast visited the Arogyadham in Gammery village in Biswanath district. Arogyadham is an institute of naturopathy and wellness retreat. There we had a conversation with famous naturopathy practitioner Golak Ranjan Upadhyay.

Fit Northeast: What kind of services do you provide to your patients?
Upadhyay: We provide services like yoga lessons for faster healing and recovery. The 5 components of nature (earth, air, water, fire and sky) are used to treat the patients. Other than that, we also do acupressure, acupuncture, the 5 divisions of panchakarma (Shirodhara is one of them), steam bath, cupping therapy depending on the requirement of the patient.
Fit Northeast: How are yoga and naturopathy different from other streams of treatment?
Upadhyay: Naturopathy and yoga have a huge difference from the other streams of treatment as it does not involve use of any kind of chemical or medicine. Here the treatment is done from substances that we get from nature. Since there is zero usage of any medication, there is no chance of any side effects and contra-indications. In naturopathy, we use the suns ray, hot and cold water, the soil (mud),

Fit Northeast: Why did you select Gammery village to set up this institute?
Upadhyay: We all know that in some cases, the location has a lead role to play. Gammery is an area that is full of lush greenery and is the place that has the banks of the rivers Bramhaputra and Buroi. This place has an abundance of organic plantations. Be it tea or any other food product. One of the biggest things we have here is the 'CHORI GUY", which means the cow who herself goes to the fields and paddy by themselves and have whatever they want. This 'chouri guy plays an important role in the panchakarma treatment. The scenic beauty also provides therapeutic relief to the minds of the people.
