Situated in Rupnagar, the Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva Vishwavidyalaya is Northeast's first university to have the department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy.This university is solely sponsored by the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, which is the largest NGO in the Northeast India. The University firmly believes that a new era of social regeneration will start from this university.
The main objectives of the three day yoga fest was to promote the classical tradition of yoga, to explore yoga traditions in the Northeastern states, to promote yogic art and culture in Northeast, to increase awareness about how yoga can promote a good health, to create a network of yoga training institutes, centres for promotion and propagation of yoga.Image: Prof. (Dr.) Mridul Hazarika addressing the people present at the inaugural session of the yoga fest
The three day yoga fest was formally inaugurated by Prof. Jagdish Mukhi (Hon'ble Governor of Assam), Prof. (Dr.) Mridul Hazarika (Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of MSSV) along with a few other dignitaries in the auditorium of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
Dr Maske even added that when the university started in the year 2015, there were only 12 students but now there are 92 students in the department of Yoga and Naturopathy.
Apart from the students and the teachers of this yogic university, around 60 yoga exponents (and research scholars) from over 100 universities presented their papers in the seminars on various topics (sub-themes) like- History and Culture of Yoga in India, History and Development of Yoga in North East India, Yoga in the Literature of Srimanta Sankardeva, Yoga and Physical, Mental, Social and Spiritual Health, Yoga for Harmony, Yoga for Peace, Yoga for Sports, Yoga for Technology, Yoga and Education, Yoga and Lifestyle Related Disorders.

As a part of the fest students of MSSV demonstrated yoga in the various yoga sessions during all the three days of the yoga fest.
Among the various yoga sessions, one session was conducted by eminent researcher in mental health, Dr. R.S. Bhogal, where he educated all the people present regarding the precise and perfect ways of doing yoga and the common mistakes we commit while doing yogasanas. He even explained the meanings of the three most powerful mantras- The Om Mantra, Maha-Mrityunjay Mantra and Gayatri Mantra.Image: Dr R.S. Bhogal during his yoga session
Talking to Fit Northeast, Dr. Ujjwal Arun Maske (Head in-charge, Department of Yogic Science and Naturopathy at MSSV) said that from August, 2022, another unit of the university is going to be set up in Jorhat which will have diploma and master degree in yoga courses. Dr. Maske even added that when the university started in the year 2015, there were only 12 students but now there are 92 students in the department of Yoga and Naturopathy.
As the yoga fest was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, few stalls were put up by AYUSH in the University campus. In the closing day, an art competition was organized where participating students drew images relating to the themes of yoga and wellbeing.
