ICMR carries out quality check on RT-PCR labs

At the conclusion, Dr Gupta said that over 93% labs have achieved a passing score which is a commendable performance

The Indian Council of Medical Research recently carried out a quality assessment of the 953 RT-PCR Covid testing labs. The result of the assessment revealed that 891 labs have passed the assessment with 80%. The assessment was carried out by the scientist at the apex medical research body.
Experts involved in the assessment said the labs that failed to reach the cut-of score will need close follow-ups to ensure that the quality of their RT-PCR testing improves.
Commenting on the tests, Head of Virology at ICMR, Dr Nivedita Gupta said that whenever a quality assessment is done, they are given coded SARS-CoV-2 samples for RT-PCR tests.

The five samples provided for tests to the labs differed in CT Value. Among that, three had high-to-low CT Values, while two were negative. The samples were tested at their end and fed the results on the portal at the ICMR.
The results were then decoded by the ICMR team to estimate the lab's performance. At the conclusion, Dr Gupta said that over 93% labs have achieved a passing score which is a commendable performance.
