15 districts of Assam have recorded zero mortality rate in the month of June: Mahanta

Addressing the State-Level Review cum Orientation Workshop today, the Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "It was the hard work of the ASHA workers and the doctors that on this day, 15 districts of Assam have recorded zero mortality rate in the month of June". He highlighted that after a detailed review of the entire data, it is now the responsibility of the health department to bring down the mortality rate of the mother and child in the state. He suggested the health departments to follow all the guidelines issued by the central and state government and frame a proper workplan in order to keep away from any kind of negligence or problem. 
Mahanta also officially inaugurated the state-launch of 'WORLD BREAST-FEEDING WEEK' and launched the MPCVS portal.
Starting the two-day workshop, Dr M.S Lakshmipriya (Director, National Health Mission, Assam) said that they have tried to include all the essential thematic areas of health like infectious diseases, infant health, maternal health when they first came up with the concept of SWASTHYA MANTAN. It was the period of post-Covid when the NHM authorities planned to meet up with the health authorities of every district to get the latest updates of the health situation of the people in various districts. MATERNAL HEALTH was the theme of the first SWASTHYA MANTHAN. The SWASTHYA MANTHAN 2 is focused on child health.

Presenting brief statistics, Dr Lakshmipriya said that the target was to achieve zero maternal and zero infant death in the upcoming days with each district having their own micro plans. She even urged the district level medical officers to come up with every problem they face, so that the work can be executed smoothly.
Earlier to this, the National Health Mission (Assam) organized a 2-day consultation conclave on the SWASTHYA MANTHAN-1 ("Health Interventions to Improve the Maternal and Child Health Status in Assam") on June 8.
In June this year, Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Sivsagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur and West Karbi Anglong had zero maternal deaths. It was mentioned that few months ago the child mortality rate was high but due to the implementation of micro plans, the number of child mortality have come down in the past few months.
The  hon'ble Health Minister also launched the 5th Edition of Swasthya Dapoon (a Quarterly Health Magazine published by NHM, Assam). Present in the meeting were Shri. Avinash Joshi, IAS, Principal Secretary - Health, Smt. Indrani Laskar, ACS, Joint Secretary - Health, Dr. Nilmadhab Das, Director of Health Services, Dr. Manoj Kr. Choudhary, Executive Director, NHM, Shri. Pankaj Chamuah, ACS, OSD NHM, Dr. Ram Chahar, National Programme Officer (Maternal and Reproductive Health), Dr. Deepti Agrawal, National Programme Officer (Infant and Child Health), both from WHO Country Office India, Dr. Rajesh Khanna, Senior Director- Programs, Ms. Anupa Vig, Deputy Director- Technical, both from LEHS|WISH Foundation India and Officers from State NHM. 
The workshop also had an award distribution ceremony. Awards were distributed to several ASHA workers and their district medical officers for their dedicated efforts and excellence in their work.

Earlier, the National Health Mission (Assam) organized a 2-day consultation conclave on SWASTHYA MANTHAN-1 ("Health Interventions to Improve the Maternal and Child Health Status in Assam") on June 8. In this two day conclave, review was done regarding the district-wise status in Assam along with a discussion of the flaws and probable changes which need to be taken to improvise the situations. In relation to this, a week long Ante-Natal Care (ANC) was carried out in all the districts of Assam from May 30 to June 5, 2022. A consolidated SOP was designed for the special ANC drive wherein the main purpose was to target the reduction of the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), mobilization of all pregnant women (new and already registered cases) to the designated sub-centres and primary health centres for the ANC check-up.
