The Assam Government has issued a new set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for both rural and urban areas in Assam, which has already come in force from 5 AM of July 28 until further order.
As per the new SOP, a strict lockdown has been imposed in Golaghat and Lakhimpur districts as the number of cases are constantly on a rise. Other than that, 5 districts, namely Jorhat, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Morigaon and Goalpara are showing moderate positivity rates and have been granted some relaxations.
In Golaghat and Lakhimpur, curfew will prevail for 24 hours. All the offices (government and private) will be closed. Any kind of business establishments, restaurants, dining or take-away, warehouses, cold storages, weekly bazaars, hotels and resorts has been ordered to remain closed. The shops dealing with grocery items, food products, dairy, milk products and animal fodder are permitted to open till 5 PM. Pharmacies, hospitals and vet clinics will remain open 24 hours. Temples and other religious places will remain closed. A maximum of 10 people are permitted to attend funerals and last rites.
The districts which are showing a moderate positivity rate (including Goalpara, Morigaon, Jorhat, Biswanath and Sonitpur) will have curfew timings from 2 PM to 5 AM. Districts including Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro), South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo, Hailakandi, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Nalbari, Hojai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong have shown improvements. In these districts, the curfew timings are from 5pm to 5AM. All the offices (government and private) will remain open till 4 PM. Shops dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, diary and milk products will remain open till 4PM. Dhabas, restaurants, and eateries to remain open till 4 PM. The sale counters, cold storages and warehouses to remain open till 4PM. Only 10 people are allowed to attend marriages and funerals. Weekly bazaars will remain closed but delivery of essential commodities will continue round the clock. Pharmacies, vet clinics and hospitals will be open round the clock.
It has been mandatory to wear face masks and follow every Covid protocol. Only 5 people are allowed to enter 1 shop at a time. Excise authority will continue taking strong action against illegal production and sale of country liquor in all the districts as a Covid containment measure.
