A day long Covid-19 vaccination camp was held yesterday, 6 August 2021, at the Kala Krishti Bikas Kendra at Bhagaduttapur in Guwahati. The vaccination camp was organized by Fit Northeast in collaboration with National Health Mission and Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Gita Medhi Kalita, an Anganwadi Worker in Bhagaduttapur area approached Mr Bhagawan Thakuria and Mr Jayanta Baishya with a permission letter seeking the approval to conduct a Covid-19 vaccination camp in that area. Mr Thakuria and Mr Baishya are the President and the Secretary of the Kala Krishti Bikas Kendra respectively. Expressing their satisfaction towards the noble initiative, they immediately agreed to offer the space of the Kala Krishti Bikas Kendra to conduct the vaccination camp smoothly. Members of the Kendra namely Padmini Barman, Rumi Devi along with local ASHA worker Kiranmoyee Kalita played key roles in the execution of the entire vaccination process.
ANM Bhabeeta Kumar and Matu Malakar vaccinated the people at the camp. It was informed that the locals of that area in their WhatsApp groups spread the message of the camp in order to create awareness regarding the camp.
Talking to Fit Northeast, ANM Matu Malakar expressed her thankfulness towards the local people, members of Kala Krishti Bikas Kendra, Department of Health and Family Welfare and Fit Northeast for their cooperation in benefiting the people of the area.
Dr Alamgir Ali, the in-charge of the Covid-19 testing centre said, "I am glad that the people have voluntarily come for the Covid-19 testing prior to the vaccination". He expressed his satisfaction on a zero Covid positive case on the spot.
A Covid-19 testing centre was set up within the same campus of the vaccination camp. He also informed Fit Northeast that initially they were expecting to vaccinate around 200 people and at the end of the day they could successfully vaccinate 253 people (including beneficiaries taking their first and second doses respectively).
The beneficiaries, after taking their vaccines rested at the spot for half an hour. Locals who came for vaccination expressed their happiness over the conduction of such a camp in their area as people, especially the old and the ones with ailments could not travel much to get themselves vaccinated.
