First child empowerment centre in the country opened at Sikkim

This centre aims at protecting the rights of children and envisages securing a safe space to every child to express his/her point of view

A first of it's kind 'Child Empowerment Centre' has been opened at Denchung of Sikkim. This centre has been set up by the social justice and welfare department under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, (South) District Child Protection Unit and is supported by State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRDPR), Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim. The centre has been funded under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.
The centre shall also prepare children to actively take part in Bal Sabhas thereby introducing them to bal panchayats and other village level events
This centre is incidentally one of the first in the country and aims at protecting the rights of children. It envisages securing a safe space to every child to express his/her point of view. In addition, this centre shall also provide education and empower children to select the right career paths. It shall also prepare children to actively take part in Bal Sabhas thereby introducing them to bal panchayats and other village level events.

This village level child empowerment unit aims at contributing towards the well being of children by providing counseling, rehabilitation and developmental support thereby creating mass awareness in terms of child protection.
