F&ES conducts safety programmes in parts of Nagaland

Apila spoke on the importance of assisting the firefighters during fire emergencies

Fire and emergency services (F&ES) conducted awareness programmes at Kiphire and Noklak as part of the National Fire Service Week on the theme "Learn fire safety, increase productivity". In Kiphire, the National Fire Service Week was commemorated in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) Kiphire. According to a DIPR report, in her short speech, Akehta Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang preseident, Apila spoke on the importance of assisting the firefighters during fire emergencies.
Fire station Kiphire, officer in charge, Tsarose Sangtam gave a Power Point presentation on "Fire Prevention and Protection System", followed by a discussion where basic fire fighting, importance of fire fighting appliances and equipment, and national building code were discussed. Earlier, the programme was chaired by N/C Kevitsatuo Shuya, Tejongol Sophie, ASI delivered welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Sevio Yhor.
F&ES conducted an awareness programme in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner (DC) Noklak. According to a DIPR report, during the programme, DC Noklak, Hiazu Meru stated that most fire incidents happened due to carelessness and that it was very important to have an awareness programme on fire safety. The DC said most of the buildings in Noklak were constructed with timber without any fire safety.

In this regard, he urged upon the public that while constructing buildings, safety measures should be given importance. He extended appreciation to all the F&ES staff of Noklak for working tirelessly and performing round-the-clock duty. Meanwhile, officer in-charge F&ES Noklak, ThenuosieliePielie while explaining the importance of National Fire Service Week elaborated on classes of fire.

He also explained kitchen fire, electrical fire, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) fire, smoking and candles/lamp, wildfires, etc. Hands on demonstration on LPG cylinder, fire extinguishers handling, and improvised method in rescuing/first aid was also demonstrated by F&ES Noklak personnel.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by ASI F&ES Noklak, Thangpong Khiam. The mock drill also saw participation from various departments, civil organisations, Noklak town sectors chairmen among others.
