Doctors throw light on management of kids with multiple disabilities

A senior doctor highlighted the schemes and programmes implemented by the central government for persons with disability (PwD).

Experts at a two-day seminar on "Rehabilitation of Individuals with Multiple Disabilities" organised at the NKC Auditorium of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) highlighted the assessment and management of children with multiple disabilities.
Renowned paediatrician Dr. Prakritish Bora was the guest of honour at the seminar which concluded on Tuesday.
Among the distinguished speakers at the seminar included Dr. Abhay Agarwal, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgeon, Apollo Excel Care Hospital, Guwahati, who spoke on children with cerebral palsy; Dr. Sukalyan Dey, pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Pratiksha Hospital, who took a session on the duet of ortho "physio in management of cerebral palsy; and Dr. Debangana Baruah who spoke on management of cerebral palsy with a multidisciplinary approach.
National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD) Chennai, department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised the seminar in collaboration with Holistic Health Care Training and Educational Foundation, Rajgarh, Guwahati.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof G D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM; Dr. M. Kathiravan, Head of Autism Unit, NIEPMD, Chennai; Dr RK Sharma, Principal Advisor, USTM in the presence of other dignitaries.
Dr. R. Manigandan, senior consultant, department of social work, NIEPMD Chennai, highlighted the schemes and programmes implemented by the central government for persons with disability (PwD).

More than 120 participants were actively involved in the seminar.
