Doctors save life of a new born child with three rare diseases

Dr Yasin Ali, Chief Consultant Pediatrics in Health City Hospital City Hospital has been able to establish the occurrence of three extremely rare diseases in a child aged 1 month 20 days for the first time in the world. After relentless research over 12 months, it was concluded that the three diseases were Horse Shoe Kidney, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia and Noonan's Syndrome.

Through a press meet on February 3, Dr Ali informed that the 1 month 20 days old male child was admitted to the hospital on 23/12/2020. Dr Ali said that at the time of admission, the child was suffering from a cold since 25 days after his birth and was being offered treatments by local physicians with necessary antibiotics and other medications but the baby was not showing any signs of improvement.

The baby suffered breathing difficulty and was unable to drink his mother's milk for 5 days prior to admission. As the baby was suffering from pneumonia, CT Scan of the Chest, CT Angiography, Echocardiography and Visual bronchoscopy was done along with the necessary blood tests.

The baby positively responded to the treatment of pneumonia and recovered. After lots of study and analysis, Dr Ali opted for Genetic Analysis. The necessary blood samples were collected and sent to Bangalore for genetic testing. After a month (30.01.2021) the genetic analysis report revealed the presence of two genetic diseases- Primary

Ciliary Dyskinesia and Noonan's Syndrome in the baby.

Dr Ali informed the media that there are chances that this child will suffer from pneumonia from time to time and will have problems in reproduction

On the other hand, a pediatric vaccination centre was inaugurated in the hospital, which will be providing all the vaccines recommended by the Health Ministry, Government of Assam for prevention of various diseases since childbirth.

The ( Director )Medical services of the hospital, Dr Atanu Borthakur announced in front of the media that the hospital has successfully completed 3 years of serving patients and are coming up with many new departments. He also said that the cancer department of the hospital is functioning actively now which receives around 100 cancer patients per day. At the program, he expressed his gratitude towards the specialized nursing and para-medics team for their hard work and dedication.
