Doctors across India observe Protest Day
It was added that doctors need changes in the IPC to Decriminalize medical profession
The Assam Branch of the Indian Medical Association observed a protest day today in the state to demand justice for Dr Archana Sharma.
The protest was carried out by each state unit of IMA due to the unfortunate incident of suicide of a senior gynaecologist Dr Archana Sharma. Dr Sharma belonged to Rajasthan and committed suicide three days ago due to atrocities. Members of the IMA Assam State Branch are offering their services wearing Black Badges today as a sign of protest and intolerance of such inhumane behaviour towards the doctors.
Members of IMA Assam State Branch are offering their services wearing Black Badges today as a sign of protest and intolerance of such inhumane behaviour towards the doctors.Addressing media here on Saturday, Dr Satyajit Bora, State President of the IMA said that "A letter has been sent to the Honourable Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Assam asking them to take strict actions regarding the safety and security of the doctors". Dr Bora added that it has too been urged to make an immediate intervention in directing concerned authorities to book and arrest the police officers involved in the death of Dr Sharma.

Adequate compensation was requested for the affected family of the late doctor. Dr Bora along with the other doctors on stage demanded for the long-awaited need of the CENTRAL ACT FOT THE VIOLENCE AGAINST DOCTORS. It was added that doctors need changes in the IPC to Decriminalize the medical profession and exempt medical professionals from CPA & Capping of Compensation.
It is today when the doctors from IMA Assam will be approaching the DC for permission of a candle march for the departed soul of Dr Sharma.
