DCGI grants market approval of two vaccines for adults

The Union Health Ministry added that Covaxin and Covishied are being upgraded for emergency use.

Covaxin and Covishield on Thursday have received the approval from the Drugs Controller General of India's for use in the adult population. These vaccines will be available at hospitals and clinics instead of the medical stores.
As per information, the data regarding the vaccination has to be submitted every six months and updated on the CoWIN app.
Under the said conditions, the firms shall submit data of ongoing clinical trials and the vaccines to be supplied for programmatic setting. Monitoring of adverse events following immunization will be continued. The drugs were approved under the New Drug and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019.

The DCGI's approval came after the Subject Expert Committee on Covid-19 of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization on January 19 recommended grating regular market approval to the Serum Institute of India's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for use in the adult population.....

The Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said that the CDSCO has now upgraded the permission for Covain and Covishied from restricted use in emergency situations to normal new drug permission in the adults.
