Covid scare: News SOP issued ahead of New Year in Assam

Along with imposing a night curfew, restrictions have been imposed on the number of people participating in any ceremony

The Assam Government has issued a new set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Addressing the media, Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta revealed that as per the new SOP, the new set of rules will be effective from Sunday (December 26) ahead of New Year.
The new SOP states that there will be a night curfew from 11.30 PM to 6 in the morning. The shops and other establishments have been ordered to close by 10.30 PM.
Only 50 per cent of people will be allowed to take part in any kind of meetings and gatherings like a funeral or any kind of birthday party. All such people must take both doses of the COVID vaccine.
On the other hand, 50 per cent will be allowed in cinema halls and hotels. Only the people who have taken 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed in religious functions. Besides, only fully vaccinated 40 people per hour will be allowed to take part in such functions.
The Health Minister urged the citizen of the state to take the double vaccine or else the government will take legal steps.

Earlier, the Assam government issued revised guidelines mandating that all international passengers entering the state will have to submit 14-day travel details and upload a negative RT-PCR test report on the Air Suvidha portal before the journey.

New Covid restrictions were announced as the total caseload in the northeastern state reached 5,89,426 after 570 more people tested positive. Out of the total cases, the highest 131 patients were detected from Kamrup Metro, followed by 37 each in Jorhat and Golaghat, and 30 in Sivasagar.
At present, Assam has 5,554 active cases, while a total of 2,16,74,871 samples have been tested for COVID-19 thus far.
With the detection of 570 coronavirus patients against the testing of 88,519 tests on Tuesday, Assam has reported a positivity rate of 0.64 per cent for the day.
Meanwhile, 624 patients recuperated from the disease during the day taking the total recoveries to 5,76,865. The current recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in the state is 97.87 per cent. The state has inoculated over 1.75 crore people to date, of whom 31,25,844 have received both doses, it said.
