Covid-19 scare: Gauhati University campus declared containment zone

With an increasing number of cases of Omicron all over the world, the number of Covid cases is also increasing in Assam

 The Gauhati University campus has been declared a containment zone following the detection 20 Covid-cases in the campus.  
Talking to Fit Northeast,  Ranjan Kakoty, the Director of Student's Welfare of the Gauhati University informed that 10 students of the boy's hostel of the Law Department tested positive for Covid-19.
A total of 20 students from the university tested positive. Kakoty added that the University Week started on December 11 and there was the cultural night and open meeting on December 14. The open meeting and cultural night had to be cancelled after the detection of positive cases on the varsity campus.
It was informed to Fit Northeast that a notification was issued by the registrar of the university informing the presence of Covid-19 cases in the university campus and the closure of the campus till the upcoming week.
The varsity authorities have ordered the closure of the campus for five days in view of the detection of Covid cases.

Kakoty informed that all the students who were tested positive for Covid were asymptomatic and were hospitalized immediately. The condition of positive students is fine.
Recently several students of the pioneer girls college of Guwahati, Handique Girls College tested positive for Covid-19.
