Cases in Tripura surged after it was declared COVID free. Here is a brief lowdown

5,999 positive cases and 41 deaths have been reported till date

Tripura had been declared COVID free in April and ironically today it has the second highest infections in the North Eastern region after Assam. The cases started surging from the first week of May. Around 553 positive cases had erupted in a BSF battalion. On June 7, 53 people who had come to the state from Chennai had tested positive. And since then the cases had an alarming spike, owing to inbound passengers through air and rail routes. Today there are a total of 5,999 confirmed cases out of which 1, 780 are active cases. Almost 4,176 have recovered and 41 have died.
