Beggars no more to live without identity

Initiative by West Garo Hills District Administration

Beggars may not have a home at all or may not have enough to eat, but in West Garo Hills district they will no more live without an identity.
With many central schemes for the poor and underprivileged demanding identity proof, the District Administration of West Garo Hills in a noble gesture has helped as many as six beggars including one visually challenged couple with child, mostly without IDs brought to the DC office Aadhar Enrollment centre at Tura on Thursday to give proper Ids.
Informing this Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District Ram Singh said, "They are being given ID with proper verification, other schemes for which they are eligible will be given to them. Ration for a few months too has been arranged by the Officers' Club."

When asked about this noble initiative, the DC said, "We generally keep distributing rations etc to the needy. However, providing them with ID card to make them eligible for poverty alleviation schemes has happened for the first time."

"We are verifying that they will get free ration, other benefits like old age and disability pension etc", he added.
The district administration of West Garo Hills is doing this noble gesture to improve the life of underprivileged people in the district.
The District Magistrate further said, "We are requesting families if they are willing to surrender their NFSA card so that these poor people can be given the NFSA PHH Ration card and they may avail NFSA as well as free PMGKY rations for future."
