Addressing the media at the press meet, the doctors said that TAVI is very rarely performed in India, especially in the Northeastern states. It is popular in European countries as well as in America because it is less invasive and requires only local anesthesia with sedation and a minimal hospital stay for a maximum of 48 hours.
The reason behind the less popularity of TAVI in India is due to its high price and lack of expertise. This is the 2nd TAVI procedure performed in Assam and the 3rd in the entire North-Eastern region.
