The health minister of Assam, Keshav Mahanta today, summoned a press meet at the Janata Bhavan in Secretariat Complex.
Addressing the meeting, he spoke regarding the Covid situation in the state and discussed a few measures to uplift the Covid condition in Assam.
The ministry arrived at a decision after discussion with the panel of ministers in the state and the other medical officials.
Thanking the citizen of Assam for following the Covid protocols, he informed that there was a visible downfall in the Covid positivity rate and death rate in the last week.
He said that the confirmed guidelines would be informed to the people through a press meet on the upcoming 7th.

The minister said that from now onwards, the Covid patients, who are co-morbid, will immediately be brought to a hospital or will be provided institutional quarantine, irrespective of their age. 
The same procedure would be followed with the people whose age is more than 50.

In order to decrease the death rate, seven medical colleges in the state have received the instructions to construct pediatric ICUs. The PWD has received a green signal along with the cost estimation to proceed with the task.

Along with it, every district hospitals are required to construct five ICUs for children.
The Director of Health Services, Director of Medical Education, with the other people concerned, is suggested to take immediate action for this work.
Focusing on the issue of vaccination, Mahanta said, currently, every day, approximately 50,000 people are getting vaccinated. They are planning to increase the count to 70,000.
Population spread over six districts of Assam, namely Kamrup Metro, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, and Cachar, to get effectively vaccinated.
It has been informed in the meet that the central government will now give 25% of vaccines to the private sectors. The government of Assam will provide loans to private hospitals if they wish to buy the vaccines. They can then repay the loan to the government without any interest within a period of 3 months.
Old aged people of the specially-abled people who cannot move out of the house will avail door-to-door vaccination facility.
