Assam Government issues new quarantine rules for air passengers

10 day home quarantine and rapid antigen and RT-PCR tests are mandatory.

The Assam Government has made amendments to the home quarantine rules for air passengers. Speaking to the media, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that there is a norm of 10 day home quarantine for air passengers arriving in the state and both the rapid antigen and RT-PCR tests are mandatory.
Further, if an air passenger needs the RT-PCR test result within 24 hours, then he/she has to pay Rs 2,200 and thereby he will get the RT-PCR test result within 24 hours. The RT-PCR test is actually free but the air passengers will have to wait for 3 to 5 days for the report to be delivered if they want to avail this free of charge option.
On the other hand, recovered COVID-19 patients with ICMR certificate will not require any tests after their arrival in Assam either by flight or train. Meanwhile, the state government along with National Health Mission (NHM) has jointly launched an awareness programme 'Jana Jagaran Week' across the state to apprise the people about the importance of wearing face masks and following social distancing norms.
