Assam gets a new Covid Care Hospital

In order to provide relief to the Covid patients, a new and comparatively well-equipped hospital gets added to the health scenario of Assam

The Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of other dignitaries, today inaugurated a Covid Care Hospital at Surusajai.
This hospital is built in association with DRDO, Government of India and is an annexe of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
The hospital is spread across an area of 3200 Square meters and is equipped with 200 beds in the general ward with Oxygen Facility,100 ICU beds with ventilators, oxygen and nursing stations.
They have been successful in setting up more than 300 ICU beds, 390 ICUs, 2684 Oxygen supported beds and 465 beds with ventilators in the last one month and are planning to come up with 200 ICU beds in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital very soon.
There is also a separate administrative block which includes rooms for senior doctors, laboratory, pharmacy, conference room, X-ray rooms, USG and ECG cabins. There are distinct areas for patients blocks for patients and a morgue. The entire complex includes a separate kitchen area, storage rooms, site office, visitor's areas and large water tanks.

While addressing the crowd during the inauguration, Dr Sarma said that the Covid situation has improved by 50%. Relaxations will be done as per the improvement of conditions in the districts. The minister added that they realized the necessity of more oxygen and ICU beds to fight the second wave. The 2nd variety is more mutant than the 1st one. Adding to that, Sarma said that many people committed mistakes by taking home isolation very lightly. As a result, they landed in hospitals at the last moment complaining of a lack of oxygen.
As a success, 100 beds were added to Silchar Medical College, 25 to Barpeta Medical College.
