Assam doctor bags 6 prestigious awards

Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee is the only Ophthalmologist from Northeast India to receive the prestigious awards

Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya (SSDN), Guwahati, is the premier Eye Care Hospital in Northeast India. This Post Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology association has been accomplishing exceptional achievements in various research and academic activities. We are very delighted to share the excellent performance of SSDN at the All India Ophthalmological Conference, Mumbai (AIOC2022). AIOC is an association of 25000 Ophthalmologists who cultivate and promote the study and practice of ophthalmic sciences, research and manpower development with a view to render service to the community and to promote social contacts among ophthalmologists of the country. This society is an amalgamation of scientific minds and clinical expertise. AIOC confers various awards for Academic Excellence and this year the Hon'ble Director (Clinical & Academics) of SSDN Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee bagged 6 prestigious awards at the 80th annual Conference of AIOC.
Worth mentioning that Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee is the only Ophthalmologist from Northeast India to receive the Col. Rangachari Award, CS RESHMI Award and E T Selvam Award. She has also been conferred with many National and International awards for her outstanding research in the field of Eye care over the years. Besides Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee is the only doctor from Assam & North East to have a dual FRCS. Prior to this achievement, Dr. Kasturi was conferred the International Hero Award by AIOC 2020 in the category of 'STAR OF INDIA" for having numerous awards in academics outside India. Receiving the award, Dr. Bhattacharjee said, "I am privileged to receive these honours. These recognitions will inspire the young Ophthalmologists/generations to work on innovations and novel research areas".

Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee is also a member of EyeNet Magazine, USA. EyeNet Magazine is an award-winning monthly news magazine published by the American Academy of Ophthalmology for its members.
"Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya has also emerged as one of the finest research institutions in the North East. Since the time of its inception, Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya has been part of several research projects pertaining to the field of Ophthalmology, at both national as well as international level", she further added. Dr. Kasturi Bhattacharjee is also a member of EyeNet Magazine, USA. EyeNet Magazine is an award-winning monthly news magazine published by the American Academy of Ophthalmology for its members. She is the only Ophthalmologist from India to receive travel fellowship for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Over the years SSDN has partnered and collaborated with various notable institutions in several projects and clinical trials for research in pursuit of advancement in the field of ophthalmology. In recent years, a team of researchers at IIT Guwahati and Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Guwahati developed and patented a testing device to detect diabetic retinopathy at an early stage without the need for invasive testing. The research was funded by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. To honour its good work and contributions in the field of research Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya formally launched its Research Wing on the 13th of October, 2021. Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Hospital is also a postgraduate teaching hospital, having primary eye clinics, having modern well-equipped operation theatres, extensive out-patient department with a wide range of sub speciality clinical & non-clinical support services, indoor wards and community outreach centre. Recently Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya has launched the Innovation Club, alongside its primary Community Service and Clinical responsibilities.
