Many studies show that MSG is directly linked with weight gain and even increases blood pressure, headache and nausea. One test-tube study found that MSG could cause swelling and death of mature brain cells.
Though MSG is likely safe in moderation, some people may have a sensitivity to MSG and should restrict the intake. This condition is known as the MSG Symptom Complex, where a person may suffer from headaches, muscle tightness, numbness and tingling.
Instant noodles may increase the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a condition that increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
Intake of instant noodles was associated with a decreased level of vitamin D and even associated with obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and intake of sugar-sweetened beverages.
