42 Pediatric ICUs included in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital
The pioneer medical institute of the state is all set to face every challenge of the third wave
As per earlier government records, there were 1540 full-fledged ICU beds in Assam. The Assam government had prior plans to establish 5 to 10 pediatric ICUs in every district hospitals and to set up 30 additional Pediatric ICUs in each medical college of the state.
Along with the arrangements made to help the Covid patients, the Covid Care Centre at Kalapahar has also been equipped with 106 beds to provide medical assistance to the post-covid cases.
As per the commitment by the government, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital has been equipped with 42 pediatric intensive care units. These are actually general ICUs but serves as pediatric ICUs after the software is installed in it. It can also be said that it is dual-mode.

Regarding this the superintendent of GMCH, Dr Abhijit Sharma had to say that the pioneer hospital has successfully treated 305 Covid children till now and now there is a relief that the hospital is more equipped to combat the third wave. It was even added that recently 200 dual-mode ICUs were installed at the parking of the hospital.
