4 new cases of Delta varient identified in Mizoram

The National Centre for Disease Control has confirmed the existence of new strains of Delta variants in Mizoram.
Mizoram reported four cases of the highly infectious B.1.617.2 virus in 4 male patients from the age groups from 18 to 45.
The department of microbiology of the Zoram Medical College has sent samples to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics at West Bengal.
In neighbouring Assam, the government has issued special guidelines for critically ill patients and those suffering from diabetes, cancer.
This variant transmits 3 times faster than the other variants and 3times more chances that the patient has to be hospitalized.

The Delta variant is now being reported in about 80 countries around the world. The chief scientist at the World Health Organization, Soumya Swaminathan  said that the delta variant, which was first detected in India is becoming a dominant variant globally because of its high transmissibility.
